JUNE 26, 2010 ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A former priest and anger-management counselor who pulled a gun in a traffic dispute on two men who happened to be U.S. Marshals has been sentenced to a year in prison. Fifty-seven-year-old Jose Luis Avila of Annandale pleaded guilty earlier this year in U.S. District Court to assaulting a federal officer. These anger-management guys, they get so emotional. And they have such bad luck in choosing victims.
JUNE 25, 2010 WASHINGTON, June 24 (UPI) -- Call it diner diplomacy: U.S. President Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered up some burgers and fries for lunch at Ray's Hell Burger Thursday. Right in the middle of the first lady's anti-obesity campaign. Some respect.
JUNE 24, 2010 LYNN, Ind., June 23 (UPI) -- An Indiana coffin maker specializing in plus-sized orders said business is booming amid the recession because of the obesity epidemic. Remember, there's an up side to everything.
JUNE 23, 2010 DENVILLE, N.J., June 22 (UPI) -- The principal of a New Jersey high school said eight sets of twins will be among the seniors walking down the aisle at graduation. William Cleffi, principal of Morris Knolls High School in Denville, N.J., said the number of twins scheduled to walk down the aisle Wednesday is only two sets short of a Guinness World Record, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported Tuesday. "It's very unusual," Cleffi said. "We've had multiples before, but it's usually been two or three (sets)." Only one thought crosses our mind: Double tuition, double tuition, double tuition.
JUNE 22, 2010 From The New York Times: One day next month every student at Loyola Law School Los Angeles will awake to a higher grade point average. But it’s not because they are all working harder. The school is retroactively inflating its grades, tacking on 0.333 to every grade recorded in the last few years. The goal is to make its students look more attractive in a competitive job market. Just what we need. Not only will we have more lawyers, but lawyers with inflated grades. What a concept!
JUNE 21, 2010 KNYSNA, South Africa, June 20 (Reuters) - France’s World Cup campaign descended into chaos on Sunday with a row between captain Patrice Evra and a fitness coach, a boycott of a training session and the resignation of a senior team official. All this came a day after striker Nicolas Anelka was sent home for insulting coach Raymond Domenech at halftime of a 2-0 defeat by Mexico on Thursday in Polokwane that left France on the verge of an embarrassing group stage exit...The furore prompted President Nicolas Sarkozy to step in, asking his sports minister to prolong her stay in South Africa to speak to the captain and coach on Monday. As they say, the French are different.
